As part of our expanding team, we are seeking a passionate and experienced English Teacher for Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4) to join us in inspiring and developing students’ skills in English language and literature.

Position Overview:

As an English Teacher for KS3 & KS4, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality online lessons that develop students’ reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills. You will cover a range of topics, including literature analysis, creative writing, grammar, and exam preparation. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic educator who can adapt to the online environment, making lessons
interactive, enjoyable, and challenging for students.

In addition to teaching, you will monitor student progress, provide feedback, and offer additional support where needed to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching and Lesson Delivery:
    • Plan and deliver engaging, interactive online lessons for KS3 and KS4 students in English language and literature.
    • Teach a range of topics including poetry, prose, drama, non-fiction, and media texts, as well as grammar and writing skills.
    • Ensure all lessons align with the national curriculum and are appropriately differentiated to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  2. Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
    • Design and administer regular assessments to track student progress in reading, writing, and comprehension.
    • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students to help them improve their skills and understanding of the subject.
    • Monitor and report on student progress, identifying areas for improvement and implementing intervention strategies when necessary.
  3. Curriculum Development:
    • Work closely with the English Curriculum Leader to review and enhance the English curriculum, ensuring it remains relevant, engaging, and aligned with educational standards.
    • Contribute to the development of resources and materials that support the learning objectives of KS3 and KS4 students.
  4. Student Support:
    • Offer additional support to students who may need extra help with specific topics or skills.
    • Organize virtual study groups or individual tutoring sessions to ensure that students fully grasp challenging concepts.
  5. Parental Engagement and Communication:
    • Maintain open communication with parents, providing regular updates on student progress, and addressing any concerns or questions.
    • Participate in virtual parent-teacher meetings to discuss student performance and set goals for improvement.
  6. Professional Development:
    • Stay updated on best practices in online education and teaching English through professional development opportunities.
    • Actively engage in continuous learning and contribute to the academic community at SMART Global Academy by sharing innovative teaching strategies.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, with a specialization in English.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, English Literature, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Proven experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 level, with strong knowledge of the national curriculum.
  • Experience in online or virtual teaching is a plus, but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students in an online learning environment.
  • Proficiency with digital tools and platforms used in online education.
  • A passion for English and a commitment to fostering a love for literature and language in students.
